Side-by-Side Candidate Comparison in the Riding of Riel

Rating Comments

During the 2016 Manitoba provincial election cycle, the Office of the Leader of Manitoba’s Liberal Party sent a statement to CLC which claimed to represent the beliefs of all Liberal Party candidates and MLAs. The statement suggests that all Manitoba Liberal candidates support the legalized killing of preborn children by abortion, as well as forcing taxpayers to finance those killings with public money. Furthermore, it implies that all Liberal candidates will oppose legislation that would protect the conscience rights of doctors and other health care workers, for example, in continuing to be able to refuse to participate in abortion, or give referrals for abortion. The statement also suggests that every Liberal candidate opposes the fundamental right of parents to withdraw their children from classroom lessons which contradict their religious and moral values, on the topics of marriage and homosexuality.

In August 2023, MLA Rochelle Squires made a very welcome right turn, voicing support for the right of parents to be informed if their child is wanting to change genders at school. She stated this after Premier Heather Stefanson made a policy announcement pledging to enhance parental rights by changing the Public Schools Act, in defense of the Premier.

Unfortunately, MLA Squires has been very supportive of the provincial funding of the abortion drug RU-486/Mifegymiso and actually made the funding announcement in 2019 in her role as Minister for Status of Women, as if it was something to be proud of. She called this government funding of pre-natal homicide "cost-effective for women to stay in their own community to access reproductive health services." (see Quotes tab)
